3.74

師因開門，有僧便入，師驀胸擒住云：「有什麼事？」僧云：「有什麼事？」師以一摑，無對。代云：「退己進於人，為存賓主禮。」代擒住處云：「驀面唾這野狐精。」又代云：「因學人置得。」

The Master once opened the gate, and a monk came right in. The Master grabbed him by the chest and said, "What is the matter?"
The monk said, "What is the matter?"
The Master gave him a slap. There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, he said, "Stepping back oneself to advance the other is to preserve the etiquette of guest and host."
In place of the moment of being grabbed, he said, "Spit right in the face of this wild fox spirit!"
He also answered on their behalf, "It was set up because of the student."
