師指露柱，問東京僧：「爾鄉中還有這箇麼？」僧云：「有。」師云：「喚作什麼？」僧云：「喚作露柱。」師云：「三家村裏老翁也解與麼道。」無對。代云：「本色。」

The Master pointed to an exposed pillar and asked a monk from the Eastern Capital, "Is there also this in your home region?"
The monk said, "There is."
The Master said, "What is it called?"
The monk said, "It is called an exposed pillar."
The Master said, "Even an old man in a three-family hamlet understands how to speak like that."
There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, he said, "[It is] the genuine color."
