3.87

有僧辭師，師云：「甚處去？」僧云：「湖南去。」師云：「前頭津鋪難過。」僧云：「某甲有隨身公驗。」師云：「這箇是念上大人。」無對。代云：「小小村鎮不足可言。」又云：「和尚太殺。」代前語云：「便珍重出去。」

A monk was taking leave of the Master. The Master said, "Where are you going?"
The monk said, "I am going to Hunan."
The Master said, "The ferry stations ahead are hard to pass."
The monk said, "I have official travel permits on me."
The Master said, "This is just reciting the primer."
There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, he said, "A tiny village town is not worth mentioning."
He also said, "The Upādhyāya is too extreme!"
In place of the earlier words, he said, "Just say 'Take care' and go out."
