舉：「亮座主參馬祖，祖問：『講甚麼經？』云：『心經。』祖云：『將甚麼講？』云：『將心講。』祖云：『心如工伎兒，意如和伎者，爭解講得經？』亮云：『心既講不得，莫是虛空講得麼？』祖云：『却是虛空講得。』亮拂袖而去，祖乃召云：『座主。』亮廻首，祖云：『從生至老，只是這箇。』亮因而有省。」師云：「看他古人恁麼慈悲教人，如今作麼生會？莫聚頭向這裏妄想。」

[The Master] cited: "When Lecturer Liang visited Mazu, the Patriarch asked, 'What sūtra do you lecture on?' He said, 'The Heart Sūtra.' The Patriarch said, 'What do you use to lecture on it?' He said, 'I use the mind to lecture on it.' The Patriarch said, 'The mind is like an acrobat, and the intellect is like the accompanist; how can they understand lecturing on the sūtra?' Liang said, 'If the mind cannot lecture on it, could it be that empty space can lecture on it?' The Patriarch said, 'Empty space indeed can lecture on it.' Liang flicked his sleeves and left. The Patriarch then called out, 'Lecturer!' Liang turned his head. The Patriarch said, 'From birth to old age, it is just this.' Thereupon Liang had an awakening." The Master said, "Look at how that ancient was so compassionate in teaching people; how do you understand it nowadays? Do not huddle together here indulging in false thoughts."
