舉：「僧問雪峯：『拈槌竪拂，不當宗乘。未審和尚如何？』雪峯竪起拂子，僧乃抱頭出去，雪峯不顧。」師代云：「大眾，看此一員大將。」又舉：「雪峯謂鏡清云：『古來有老宿，引官人巡堂，云：「此一眾，盡是學佛法僧。」官人云：「金屑雖貴，又作麼生？」老宿無對。』鏡清代云：『比來拋甎引玉。』」師別云：「官人何得貴耳賤目。」

[The Master] cited: "A monk asked Xuefeng, 'Lifting the mallet and raising the fly-whisk do not belong to the ancestral vehicle. How about the upādhyāya?' Xuefeng raised the fly-whisk. The monk then held his head and went out; Xuefeng did not pay attention." The Master spoke in substitution: "Great assembly, look at this great general!" [The Master] also cited: "Xuefeng said to Jingqing, 'Of old, there was a senior master who led an official on an inspection of the hall, saying, "This entire assembly are all monks studying the Buddha-Dharma." The official said, "Though gold dust is precious, what then?" The senior master had no reply.' Jingqing spoke in substitution: 'Hitherto, it was throwing a brick to attract jade.'" The Master spoke alternatively: "Why should the official esteem his ears and despise his eyes?"
