龍牙問翠微：「自到和尚法席，每每上堂，不蒙一法示誨，意在於何？」翠微云：「嫌箇什麼？」龍牙後至洞山，亦如是道，洞山云：「爭怪得老僧？」後又問師，師云：「祖師來也。」（雪竇顯云：「兩箇老漢，被這僧穿却，唯有法眼與他同參。若是雪竇門下，喫棒了趁出。」）

Longya asked Cuiwei, "Since coming to the upādhyāya's Dharma assembly, every time you ascend the hall, I have not received the instruction of a single dharma. What is the intention?" Cuiwei said, "What are you complaining about?" Longya later arrived at Dongshan and also spoke like this. Dongshan said, "How can you blame the old monk?" Later he also asked the Master, and the Master said, "The Patriarch has come!" (Xuedou Xian said, "These two old men were seen through by this monk; only Fayan practiced alongside him. If he were under Xuedou's gate, he would taste thirty blows and be driven out.")
