1.58

師見僧搬土次，乃以一塊土放僧擔上，云：「吾助汝。」僧云：「謝和尚慈悲。」師不肯。一僧別云：「和尚是甚麼心行？」師便休去。

The master saw a monk carrying earth and placed a lump of earth onto the monk's carrying pole, saying, "I will assist you." The monk said, "Thank you, Upādhyāya, for your compassion." The master did not accept this. Another monk offered an alternative: "What is the upādhyāya's mental attitude?" The master then let the matter rest.
