1.60

師謂小兒子云：「因子識得爾爺，爾爺名甚麼？」兒無對。（法燈代云：「但將衣袖掩面。」）師却問僧：「若是孝順之子，合下得一轉語。且道，合下得甚麼語？」僧無對，師代云：「他是孝順之子。」

The master said to a small boy, "Because of the son, one recognizes your father. What is your father's name?" The boy had no reply. (Fadeng spoke on his behalf: "Just cover your face with your sleeve.") The master then asked a monk, "If he were a filial son, he should provide a turning phrase. Tell me, what phrase should he provide?" The monk had no reply. The master spoke on his behalf: "He is a filial son."
