師問講《百法論》僧云：「百法，是體用雙陳；明門，是能所兼舉。座主是能，法座是所，作麼生說兼舉？」（有老宿代云：「某甲喚作箇法座。」歸宗柔云：「不勞和尚如此。」雪竇別老宿語云：「和尚分半院與某甲始得。」）

The master asked a monk lecturing on the Treatise on the Hundred Dharmas, "'Hundred Dharmas' is the twofold presentation of essence and function; 'illuminating gateway' is the simultaneous mention of subject and object. The lecturer is the subject, and the Dharma-seat is the object; how do you explain the simultaneous mention?" (An old worthy spoke on his behalf: "I call it a Dharma-seat." Guizong Rou said, "There is no need to trouble the upādhyāya like this." Xuedou offered an alternative to the old worthy's words: "The upādhyāya must share half the monastery with me for it to be right.")
