法眼問百法座主云：「百法是體用雙陳，明門是能所兼舉，座主是能，法座是所，作麼生說箇兼舉？」有老宿代云：「和尚喚什麼作法座？」別云：「和尚分半院與某甲始得。」

Fayan asked a lecture master on the Hundred Dharmas, "The hundred dharmas are the dual display of substance and function; the gateway of clear understanding is the simultaneous presentation of the capable and the object. You, Lecture Master, are the capable, and the Dharma seat is the object; how do you speak of a simultaneous presentation?" A veteran elder on his behalf said, "What does the upādhyāya call the Dharma seat?" In an alternative [the Master] said, "Only if the upādhyāya divides half the courtyard to give to me will it do."
