1.85

有人問僧：「點甚麼燈？」僧云：「長明燈。」云：「甚麼時點？」云：「去年點。」云：「長明何在？」僧無語。長慶代云：「若不如此，知公不受人謾。」師別云：「利動君子。」

Someone asked a monk, "What lamp are you lighting?" The monk said, "An ever-bright lamp." He asked, "When was it lit?" He said, "It was lit last year." He asked, "Where is the ever-bright [lamp]?" The monk was speechless. Changqing spoke in his place: "If it were not so, I would know that you cannot be deceived." The Master gave an alternative reply: "Profit stirs a gentleman."
