舉：「西堂智藏禪師，路逢天使，留齋次，偶驢子鳴，天使云：『頭陀。』西堂舉頭，天使却指驢，西堂却指天使，天使無對。」師別云：「但作驢鳴。」

[The Master] cited: "When Chan Master Xitang Zhizang met an imperial envoy on the road, while he was detained for a meal, a donkey happened to bray. The envoy said, 'Dhūta.' Xitang raised his head. The envoy then pointed to the donkey; Xitang then pointed to the envoy. The envoy had no response." The Master gave an alternative reply: "Simply bray like a donkey."
