上堂，拈拄杖云：「三世諸佛，總在這裏，看看。見爾勿孔竅，總入拄杖裏妄生節目去也。有趁得上底麼？有即舉一步趁看。」便有僧出，師云：「瞥爾早拋千萬里。」又打云：「我早是𨁝跳入泥坑裏，爾更待火焰上添草，似箇阿師，救得也無？」僧禮拜，師云：「來來，爾還會葛藤麼？」僧云：「不會。」師云：「賴爾不會，汾陽拾得口喫飯，囌嚕囌嚕。」問：「如何是祖師西來意？」師云：「徹骨徹髓。」「此意如何？」師云：「通天通地。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] held up his staff and said, "The Buddhas of the three periods are all right here—look, look! Seeing that you have no apertures, they all enter into the staff and falsely generate joints and nodes. Is there anyone who can catch up? If there is, take a step and try to catch up!" / A monk then stepped forward. The Master said, "In an instant, already cast ten thousand miles away." He struck him again and said, "I have already leaped into a mud pit, and you still wait to add grass to the flames! Can an ācārya like this be saved or not?" / The monk bowed. The Master said, "Come, come. Do you understand wordy entanglements?" / The monk said, "I do not understand." / The Master said, "Fortunately you do not understand, so Fenyang finds a mouthful of food to eat—suru suru." / [A monk] asked, "What is the meaning of the ancestral master coming from the West?" / The Master said, "Piercing through bone and piercing through marrow." / "How is this meaning?" / The Master said, "Reaching to heaven and reaching to earth."
