晚參，僧問：「離四句，絕百非，請師剖拆。」師云：「摩訶衍法，皆從此出。」打禪床一下。「恁麼則普皆得聞。」師云：「不用忉忉。」問：「德雲不下妙峰頂，善才何處得參尋？」師云：「今日重聞。」「覺城東際今日親聞也。」師云：「雪山南畔更三千。」問：「大用現前不存軌則，如何是大用現前？」師云：「落在什麼處？」僧無語，師便喝云：「拂子柄短。」

At the evening assembly, a monk asked, "'Free from the four propositions, cutting off the hundred negations'—please, Master, dissect this." The Master said, "The Mahāyāna teachings all emerge from this." He struck the meditation bench once. "In that case, it is universally heard by all." The Master said, "No need to chatter." He asked, "Deyun does not come down from the summit of Wonderful Peak; where can Sudhana go to call on and seek him?" The Master said, "Today it is heard again." "East of Awakening City, today I personally hear it." The Master said, "South of the Snowy Mountains, another three thousand [leagues]." He asked, "'When the great function manifests, it does not abide by rules.' What is the great function manifesting?" The Master said, "Where has it fallen?" The monk had nothing to say. The Master then gave a shout and said, "The handle of the whisk is short."
