1.98

師云：「這箇是賓主語，明得也未？若明得，橫擔拄杖，穿雲渡水，證據諸方曲[彔*見]木頭裏老和尚，見伊開口動舌，便識得伊了也。又不得一向高茅，點脇點肋，道我知我解，擔擎衒耀，逞己愚頑，誑他後學，彼無利益，但自省己，保護聖胎，豈不輕安。更擬躊蹰，堪作何用？伏惟珍重。」

The Master said, "These are words of host and guest. Have you understood them or not? If you have understood them, carrying your staff horizontally on your shoulders, passing through clouds and crossing waters, when you verify the old venerables on their bent-wood chairs in all directions, as soon as you see them open their mouths and move their tongues, you will immediately recognize them. Yet you must not persistently set yourself on high, jabbing their flanks and prodding their ribs, saying, 'I know, I understand!' shouldering it to show off, displaying your own foolish stubbornness and deceiving students who come after. That brings no benefit. Simply examine yourself and protect the sacred embryo—would that not be light and at ease? If you still intend to hesitate, what use can you serve? Respectfully, take care."
