「提婆達多，教惡生王，殺父殺母，及殺世尊，失却神通，却來見佛。佛告曰：『癡人，汝何不現神通？』無對慚恥。」代云：「君子惡先言。」

"Devadatta instructed King Ajātaśatru to kill his father, kill his mother, and kill the World-Honored One. Having lost his supernatural powers, he nevertheless came to see the Buddha. The Buddha told him: 'Foolish man, why do you not manifest supernatural powers?' Having no answer, he was ashamed." Replacing [the original words], he said: "A gentleman dislikes speaking beforehand."
