「梁帝問祖師：『如何是聖諦第一義？』祖曰：『廓然無聖。』帝云：『對朕者誰？』祖云：『不識。』」代云：「弟子智淺。」

"Emperor Wu of Liang asked the Patriarch: 'What is the primary truth of the sacred truths?' The Patriarch said: 'Vast and empty, nothing sacred.' The Emperor said: 'Who is facing Us?' The Patriarch said: 'I do not know.'" Replacing [the original words], he said: "The disciple's wisdom is shallow."
