「誌公問祖師：『承聞仁者喚我作屠兒，還見我殺生否？』云：『見。』誌公云：『有見見？無見見？不有不無見邪？』祖云：『汝有如是見邪？』」代云：「不枉西來。」

"Master Baozhi asked the Patriarch: 'I have heard that you, benevolent one, call me a butcher; have you ever seen me kill living beings?' He said: 'I have seen it.' Master Baozhi said: 'Did you see with perception? Did you see without perception? Or did you see neither with nor without perception?' The Patriarch said: 'Do you have such a view?'" Replacing [the original words], he said: "It was not in vain that you came from the west."
