「又問：『什麼處去來？』云：『斫槽來。』『幾斧斫成？』云：『一斧斫成，猶是這邊事，那邊事作麼生？』云：『直得無下手處。』云：『無下手處，猶是這邊事，那邊事作麼生？』」代云：「專甲早是困。」

"[Dongshan] also asked: 'Where have you come from?' [Xuefeng] said: 'I came from hollowing out a trough.' 'How many strokes of the axe did it take to finish it?' He said: 'It was finished with a single stroke of the axe.' [Dongshan said:] 'That is still a matter of this side; what about a matter of that side?' He said: 'One simply finds no place to lay a hand.' [Dongshan] said: 'Having no place to lay a hand is still a matter of this side; what about a matter of that side?'" Replacing [Xuefeng's words], he said: "This person is already exhausted."
