「夾山勘僧：『近離什麼處？』云：『洞山。』『洞山有什麼言句？』『和尚上堂，云：「今時向去，許伊三路學，所謂玄路、鳥道、展手。」』夾云：『實有此語否？』云：『是。』師云：『鬼持千里鈔，林下道人悲。』」代云：「枉行千里。」

"Jiashan tested a monk: 'Where did you leave recently?' He said: 'Dongshan.' 'What sayings does Dongshan have?' 'The Master ascended the hall and said: "Nowadays going forward, I permit them three paths to study: the so-called dark path, bird path, and open hands."' Jiashan said: 'Are there truly such words?' He said: 'Yes.' The Master [Jiashan] said: 'A ghost carrying paper money for a thousand miles; the person of the Way beneath the grove grieves.'" Replacing [the monk's words], he said: "Traveling a thousand miles in vain."
