「百丈恒和尚問僧：『什麼處來？』云：『久響當山大樹去遊來。』師云：『是什麼樹，得與麼大？』」代云：「早是枝條少。」

"Master Baizhang Heng asked a monk: 'Where have you come from?' He said: 'Having long heard of the great tree of this mountain, I came to roam.' The Master said: 'What tree is it that can be so big?'" Replacing [the monk's words], he said: "Already its branches are few."
