上堂，云：「未到鷲峯，一事全無，洎到鷲峯，便有進前捋虎鬚之客，退後把虎尾之人，殊不曉未行已行之令。故大覺禪師，唯得偏行一著，臨濟德山，祇是互用二機，便云法道周流，大似拗曲作直；所謂棒喝截斷，猶若以金博鍮。直饒東注西流、南唱北和，亘古亘今，且未有當頭道著。作麼生是當頭一句？」良久云：「劄。」

Ascending the hall, he said: "Before arriving at Gṛdhrakūṭa, there is not a single thing at all. As soon as one reaches Gṛdhrakūṭa, there appear guests who step forward to pluck the tiger's whiskers and people who draw back to hold the tiger's tail, wholly failing to understand the order not yet carried out and already carried out. Therefore, Chan Master Dajue only attained the one partial move, while Linji and Deshan merely made alternate use of two dynamics; to then say that the way of the Dharma circulates everywhere is very much like bending the crooked into the straight. What is called cutting off with stick and shout is still like trading gold for brass. Even if it pours east and flows west, singing in the south and chiming in the north, through antiquity and through the present, still no one has directly spoken of it head-on. What is the head-on phrase?" After a long pause, he said: "Zha!"
