上堂云：「真如凡聖，皆是夢言，佛及眾生，並為增語。或有人出來道：『盤山老𡁠。』但向伊道：『不因紫陌花開早，爭得黃鸎下柳條。』若更問道：『四面老𡁠。』」自云：「喏惺惺著。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "True thusness, ordinary, and sage are all words of a dream; Buddha and sentient beings are both redundant terms. If someone were to come forth and say, 'Old P'an-shan!' I would simply say to him: 'Were it not for the flowers blooming early on the purple lane, / How could the yellow oriole come down to the willow twig?' If he further asked: 'Old Simian!'" The Master said to himself: "Present! Stay alert."
