Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "What is the ultimate matter?" The Master said, "What need is there to make a special effort?" He then cited: "A monk sought instruction from Langye: 'Pure and originally so, how do mountains, rivers, and the great earth suddenly arise?' The Master said: "Though gold dust is precious, falling into the eye it causes a cataract."
