2.71

請化主上堂云：「造化之功，祖宗門下作天地發生之氣，春夏秋冬；決含靈顛倒之心，常樂我淨。若據衲僧用處，又且不然。變大地為黃金，攪長河為酥酪，猶未稱白雲在。忽有箇漢出來道：『似恁說話，只是箇貪心不足漢。』」自云：「道著。參！」

On the occasion of inviting the fundraising monastics, he ascended the hall and said, "The work of creation and transformation, under the gate of the patriarchs, makes the generative qi of Heaven and Earth—spring, summer, autumn, and winter; it resolves the inverted minds of sentient beings into permanence, bliss, self, and purity. Yet if we go by where patch-robed monks function, it is not so at all. Even transforming the great earth into yellow gold and churning the long rivers into clarified butter would still not satisfy Baiyun. If suddenly someone were to come forth and say, 'Talking like this, you are merely a fellow of insatiable greed,'" he said himself, "Well said! Practice!"
