2.73

上堂，舉：「釋迦如來往忉利天為母說法，優填王思佛命匠人雕栴檀像，及至世尊下來，像亦出迎。諸人且道，下來底是？出迎底是？又教中道：『如來者無所從來亦無所去。』莫是法身無來去，化身有來去麼？若人於此見得，日銷萬兩黃金；其或未然，草鞋錢教什麼人還？」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "When Śākyamuni Tathāgata went to the Trāyastriṃśa Heaven to preach the Dharma for his mother, King Udayana longed for the Buddha and ordered artisans to carve a sandalwood image. When the World-Honoured One descended, the image also came out to welcome him. Tell me, everyone: was the one descending right, or was the one coming out to welcome him right? Furthermore, it is said in the teachings: 'The Tathāgata comes from nowhere and goes nowhere.' Could it be that the Dharmakāya neither comes nor goes, while the transformation body has coming and going? If someone can see into this, he can consume ten thousand ounces of gold a day; but if not, who will you have repay the cost of your straw sandals?"
