3.22

上堂，舉：「肅宗帝問忠國師云：『和尚百年後所須何物？』國師云：『與老僧造箇無縫塔。』帝云：『請師塔樣。』國師良久云：『會麼？』帝云：『不會。』國師云：『吾有付法弟子耽源，却諳此事，請詔問之。』」師云：「前面是真珠瑪瑙，後面是瑪瑙真珠，東邊是觀音勢至，西邊是普賢文殊，中間有一首幡，被風吹著，道胡盧胡盧。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Emperor Suzong asked National Teacher Zhong: 'After your passing, Upādhyāya, what will you need?' The National Teacher said: 'Build this old monk a seamless stupa.' The Emperor said: 'Please provide the master's stupa model.' The National Teacher remained silent for a long while and said: 'Do you understand?' The Emperor said: 'I do not understand.' The National Teacher said: 'I have a Dharma-successor disciple, Danyuan, who is well versed in this matter; please summon him to ask.'" The Master said: "In front are pearls and carnelian; in back are carnelian and pearls. On the east side are Avalokiteśvara and Mahāsthāmaprāpta; on the west side are Samantabhadra and Mañjuśrī. In the middle there is a single banner, blown by the wind, saying: 'Hulu, hulu!'"
