舉肅宗帝問忠國師。百年後所須何物。國師云。與老僧作箇無縫塔。帝曰。請師塔樣。國師良久云。會麼。帝曰不會。國師云。吾有付法弟子耽源。却諳此事。後帝詔耽源。問此意如何。源云。相之南譚之北。中有黃金充一國。無影樹下合同舡。琉璃殿上無知識。頌曰。

Emperor Suzong asked National Teacher Zhong: "A hundred years from now, what will you need?"
The National Teacher said: "Build a seamless stūpa for this old monk."
The Emperor said: "Please provide a model of the stūpa, Master."
The National Teacher remained silent for a long time, then said: "Do you understand?"
The Emperor said: "I do not understand."
The National Teacher said: "I have a disciple to whom the Dharma was transmitted, Danyuan, who is well versed in this matter."
Later the Emperor summoned Danyuan and asked what this meant.
Danyuan said: "South of Xiang, north of Tan;
In between, yellow gold fills an entire realm.
Beneath the shadowless tree, the communal boat;
Upon the lapis lazuli palace, no spiritual friend."
