1.58

五人新到，師云：「洞庭絕頂無行路，不假梯航速道看。」僧云：「特來禮拜和尚。」師云：「湛水停舟，徒誇運濟。」僧無語，師云：「過者邊來。」其僧齊過，師云：「將頭不猛，誤累三軍。參堂去。」

Five newcomers arrived. The Master said, "The highest peak of Dongting has no pathway; without relying on ladders or boats, speak quickly!" A monk said, "I have come specially to pay homage to the Upādhyāya." The Master said, "Mooring a boat in calm waters, vainly boasting of ferrying across." The monk was speechless. The Master said, "Come over to this side." The monks came over together. The Master said, "If the commander is not fierce, he brings disaster upon the three armies. Go to the hall to participate!"
