一日舉：「乾峯示眾云：『舉一不得舉二，放過一著落在第二。』雲門大師出眾云：『昨日有人從天台來，却往南嶽去。』峯云：『來日不要普請。』」師云：「諸禪德！雲門老漢只解一手擡，不能一手搦。還有共相著力底麼？試露爪牙看。」

One day he brought up: "Qianfeng instructed the assembly, saying: 'Presenting one, one must not present two; letting the first move pass, one falls into the second.' Great Master Yunmen stepped out of the assembly and said: 'Yesterday someone came from Tiantai, and went off to Nanyue.' Feng said: 'Tomorrow do not hold a communal work session.'" The Master said: "Venerable Chan practitioners! Old man Yunmen only knew how to lift up with one hand, but could not press down with the other. Is there anyone who joins in applying strength? Try baring your claws and teeth!"
