上堂，舉：「在眾日，僧問：『如何是佛？』師云：『四眾圍繞。』『如何是涅槃？』師云：『雙林樹下。』復云：『便是釘觜鐵石漢，也卒話會不及。歸堂。』」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "During my days in the assembly, a monk asked, 'What is the Buddha?' The Master said, 'Surrounded by the four assemblies.' 'What is nirvāṇa?' The Master said, 'Beneath the Twin Trees.' He further said, 'Even for a fellow with iron beak and stone heart, it cannot be swiftly deliberated. Return to the hall.'"
