示眾云：「摩竭正令，譬若披沙揀金；毘耶杜辭，頗類守株待兔。設使頓開千眼，未辯機關；點著不來，白雲萬里。」

Instructing the assembly, he said: "The correct order at Magadha is like washing sand to pick out gold; closing the mouth at Vaiśālī is rather like watching the tree-stump to wait for a hare. Even if you suddenly open a thousand eyes, you still cannot discern the workings of the nexus; if you are prodded and do not come forth, white clouds stretch for ten thousand miles."
