上堂云：「種種幻化，皆生如來圓覺。」師云：「住住，三世諸佛是幻，六代祖師是幻，天下老和尚是幻。」復拈起拄杖云：「拄杖子是幻，那箇是圓覺？」良久以拄杖擊繩床一下云：「幻出。」大眾擬議，師云：「者一隊漆桶，總無孔竅。」以拄杖一時趁下。

Ascending the hall, he said: "'All various illusory transformations are born from the Tathāgata's complete awakening.'" The Master said: "Stop, stop! The Buddhas of the three periods are an illusion; the patriarchs of the six generations are an illusion; the old upādhyāyas under heaven are an illusion." He again held up his staff and said: "The staff is an illusion; which one is complete awakening?" After a long pause, he struck the rope bed once with his staff and said: "Illusioned forth!" When the great assembly hesitated, the Master said: "This gang of lacquer buckets has no openings at all!" With his staff, he drove them all away at once.
