舉：「夾山問僧：『甚處來？』云：『湖南來。』山云：『曾到石霜麼？』云：『要路經過，爭得不到。』山云：『承聞石霜有毬子話是否？』云：『和尚也須急著眼。』山云：『作麼生是毱子？』云：『趒不出。』云：『作麼生是毱杖？』云：『勿手足。』山云：『老僧未曾與闍梨相識，出去。』」師云：「雪竇親見者僧從石霜來，夾山因甚麼道不相識？」

He brought up: "Jiashan asked a monk: 'Where do you come from?' The monk said: 'I come from Hunan.' Jiashan said: 'Did you ever go to Shishuang?' The monk said: 'Passing through on an essential route, how could I not go?' Jiashan said: 'I have heard that Shishuang has a discourse on the ball; is it so?' The monk said: 'The upādhyāya must also quickly fix his eyes on it.' Jiashan said: 'What is the ball?' The monk said: 'It does not bounce out.' Jiashan said: 'What is the ball-stick?' The monk said: 'It has no hands or feet.' Jiashan said: 'This old monk has never made the ācārya's acquaintance; get out!'" The Master said: "Xuedou personally saw this monk come from Shishuang; why did Jiashan say he did not know him?"
