師問大龍：「語底默底不是，非語非默底更非，總是總不是拈却，大用現前時，人知有大龍如何？」龍云：「子有如是見解那。」師云：「這老漢今日瓦解氷消。」至晚龍問師：「那裏是老僧瓦解氷消處？」師云：「轉見不堪。」拂袖便出，龍云：「叵耐叵耐。」師不顧，後舉似福嚴雅，雅云：「何不與他本分草料？」師云：「和尚更買草鞋行脚始得。」

The Master asked Dalong: "What speaks and what is silent are not it; what is neither speaking nor silent is even less it. When both 'it is all so' and 'it is not all so' are set aside, and the great function manifests before us, how do people know that Dalong exists?" Dalong said: "Do you have such an understanding?" The Master said: "This old fellow has dissolved like tiles and melted like ice today!" When evening came, Dalong asked the Master: "Where was this old monk's dissolving like tiles and melting like ice?" The Master said: "Even more unbearable to behold!" He flicked his sleeves and walked out. Dalong said: "Intolerable! Intolerable!" The Master did not pay heed. Later he related this to Fuyan Ya; Ya said: "Why did you not give him the forage of his proper sphere?" The Master said: "The upādhyāya must buy grass sandals and go traveling on foot again before he will get it!"
