問僧：「近離甚處？」僧云：「溫州。」師云：「還識永嘉大師麼？」僧云：「是鄉人。」師云：「與爾隔海。」僧云：「酌然。」師云：「而赤不如語直。」僧無對，師云：「噓。」

He asked a monk, "Where have you recently come from?" The monk said, "Wenzhou." The master said, "Do you know Great Master Yongjia?" The monk said, "He is a fellow townsman." The master said, "He is separated from you by an ocean." The monk said, "Undoubtedly." The master said, "Blushing red is not as good as speaking frankly." The monk had no reply. The master said, "Hmph!"
