舉：「玄沙云：『吾有正法眼藏，付囑摩訶大迦葉，猶如話月；曹谿豎拂，猶如指月。』鼓山云：『月𡁠。』玄沙云：『者阿師就我覓月。』鼓山不肯，却歸眾云：『道我就他覓月。』」師云：「玄沙鼓山，如排百萬軍大陣，只拋瓦子相擊。或有衲僧辯得，當知正法眼藏付囑有在。」

He brought up [the following]: "Xuansha said, 'I have the treasury of the true Dharma eye, which was entrusted to Mahākāśyapa; it is like speaking of the moon. Caoxi holding up the whisk is like pointing to the moon.' Gushan said, 'Moon!' Xuansha said, 'This ācārya seeks the moon from me.' Gushan did not agree, but returned to the assembly and said, '[He] says I sought the moon from him.'" The master said, "Xuansha and Gushan were like deploying a great battle array of a million troops, yet merely throwing shards of tile at each other. If there is a patch-robed monk who can discern this, he should know that the entrustment of the treasury of the true Dharma eye is truly present."
