3.30

舉：「僧問香林：『如何是衲衣下事？』林云：『臘月火燒山。』」師云：「臘月燒山，萬種千般，翹松鶴冷，踏雪人寒，達磨不會，大難大難。」

He cited: "A monk asked Xianglin, 'What is the matter under the patch-robe?' Lin said, 'In the twelfth lunar month, fire burns the mountain.'" The Master said, "'In the twelfth lunar month fire burns the mountain,' / in ten thousand kinds and a thousand sorts: / perched on the pine, the crane is cold; / treading on snow, the person is chilled. / Bodhidharma did not understand; / vastly difficult, vastly difficult!"
