3.41

舉：「趙州訪茱萸，纔上法堂，茱萸云：『看箭。』州亦云：『看箭。』茱萸云：『過。』州云：『中。』」師云：「二俱作家，蓋是茱萸、趙州；二俱不作家，箭鋒不相拄。直饒齊發齊中，也只是箇射垛漢。」

He cited: "Zhaozhou visited Zhuyu. As soon as he entered the Dharma hall, Zhuyu said, 'Watch the arrow!' Zhou also said, 'Watch the arrow!' Zhuyu said, 'Passed.' Zhou said, 'Hit.'" The Master said, "Both are adepts, because they are Zhuyu and Zhaozhou; neither is an adept, because the arrowheads did not meet point to point. Even if they released together and hit together, they would merely be fellows shooting at targets."
