3.93

舉：「僧問投子：『依稀似半月，髣象若三星，乾坤收不得，師於何處明？』子云：『道什麼？』云：『想師只有湛水之波，且無滔天之浪。』子云：『閑言語。』」師云：「投子古佛，不可道不知，若點撿來，直是天地懸隔。纔問，便和聲打。」

He cited: "A monk asked Touzi, 'Faintly resembling a half moon, appearing like three stars, heaven and earth cannot contain it—where does the Master make it clear?' Touzi said, 'What are you saying?' The monk said, 'I imagine the Master has only the ripples of calm water, and lacks the waves that billow to the heavens.' Touzi said, 'Idle words!'" The Master said, "Touzi was an ancient Buddha; one cannot say he did not know. But if one examines it closely, they are as far apart as heaven and earth. The moment he asked, [Touzi] should have struck him along with his voice."
