睦州問座主：「講什麼經？」云：「涅槃經。」州云：「問大德一段義得麼？」云：「問什麼義？」州以脚趯空吹一吹云：「箇是什麼義？」云：「經中無此義。」州云：「脫空謾語漢，此是五百力士揭石義麼？」老宿代云：「和尚瞞某甲瞞大眾。」別云：「和尚慣得其便。」

Muzhou asked a lecture master, "What sūtra do you explain?" He said, "The Nirvāṇa Sūtra." Muzhou said, "May I ask the Great Worthy about a passage of meaning?" He said, "What meaning do you ask about?" Muzhou kicked into the air with his foot, blew a breath, and said, "What meaning is this?" He said, "There is no such meaning in the sūtra." Muzhou said, "Empty-headed, deceitful fellow! Is this the meaning of the five hundred strongmen lifting the rock?" A veteran elder on his behalf said, "The upādhyāya is deceiving me and deceiving the great assembly." In an alternative [the Master] said, "The upādhyāya is accustomed to getting his way."
