雲門到洞巖得數日上參，恰見巖下來，巖問：「什麼處去？」云：「親近去。」巖云：「亂走作什麼？」云：「暫時不在。」巖云：「什麼處去來？」別云：「好與三十棒。」

Yunmen arrived at Dongyan. After several days, he went up to pay respect and happened to see Dongyan coming down. Dongyan asked, "Where are you going?" He said, "Going to draw near [to the master]." Dongyan said, "Why wander about wildly?" He said, "I was temporarily away." Dongyan said, "Where did you go and come back from?" Alternatively: "He ought to be given thirty blows with the stick."
