4.70

一日請益退，侍者問訊云：「和尚不易。」師云：「有什麼不易？」無對，師代云：「法堂上寸草不生。」僧便禮拜，師云：「若不是我。」

One day after an individual instruction session, the attendant made inquiries, saying: "The upādhyāya has had it hard." The master said: "What was hard about it?" The attendant had no reply. The master said on [his] behalf: "In the Dharma hall not an inch of grass grows." The monk then made prostrations. The master said: "If it were not for me!"
