師一日見僧來，師云：「是什麼物與麼來？」僧云：「口痛，秖對和尚不得。」師云：「鼻孔儞。」僧無語，師云：「黃連未是苦。」

One day the master saw a monk coming and said: "What thing comes thus?" The monk said: "My mouth aches; I cannot respond to the upādhyāya." The master said: "Your nostrils!" The monk was silent. The master said: "Chinese goldthread is not yet bitter."
