4.73

師一日見二僧來，拈起拄杖云：「與儞二人分取。」僧云：「只恐和尚不平。」第一僧云：「那上座先到雪竇。」師云：「有功者賞。」

One day the master saw two monks coming, picked up his staff, and said: "I divide it between the two of you." A monk said: "We only fear the upādhyāya will not be fair." The first monk said: "That senior monk arrived at Xuedou first." The master said: "Those with merit are rewarded."
