4.74

師一日見二化主城中歸，問云：「儞憑箇什麼入城教化眾生？」僧云：「雖有好心，且無好報。」第二僧云：「禍不入慎家之門。」師云：「近火先燋。」

One day the master saw two fundraising directors returning from the city and asked: "Relying on what did you enter the city to teach and transform sentient beings?" A monk said: "Although having a good intention, there is no good recompense." The second monk said: "Misfortune does not enter the gate of a prudent family." The master said: "What is close to fire scorches first."
