師一日晚參，問僧：「是什麼時候也？」僧應諾，師便喝，僧云：「和尚何不領話？」師云：「日勢稍晚。」

One day during the evening gathering, the master asked a monk: "What time is it?" The monk answered, "Yes." The master immediately gave a shout. The monk said: "Why does the upādhyāya not understand what I say?" The master said: "The day's momentum is rather late."
