4.81

師一日問僧：「儞作箇什麼來？」僧云：「合靈寶丹來。」師云：「靈即不問，作麼生是寶？」僧云：「不敢秖對和尚。」師不肯，自代云：「洎與和尚答話。」

One day the master asked a monk: "What have you been doing?" The monk said: "Compounding the spiritual jewel elixir." The master said: "I do not ask about 'spiritual'; what is the 'jewel'?" The monk said: "I dare not reply to the upādhyāya." The master did not approve and on his own behalf said: "I almost answered the upādhyāya's question."
