[The Master] cited: "Changzi asked a monk, 'Where have you come from?' The monk said, 'From the Stone-Bridle Hermitage on Mount Jiuhua.' Changzi said, 'What kind of man is the master of the hermitage?' The monk said, 'A venerable master under Mazu.' Changzi said, 'What is his name?' The monk said, 'I do not know his Dharma name.' Changzi said, 'Does he not know, or do you not know?' The monk said, 'Where are the venerable master's eyes?' Changzi said, 'Even if the master of the hermitage came in person, he would have to take a blow with the stick today.' The monk said, 'Fortunately I met the Upādhyāya, who let me off.' Changzi said, 'A hundred years from now, such a monk will be hard to find.'"
The Master said, "While it is true that both were experts, still they only understood how to hold the tiger's tail, and could not seize the tiger's head. If Deshan's command were put into effect, both would collapse like tiles."
