[The Master] cited: "Baofu instructed the assembly, saying, 'This matter is like sparks from flint or a flash of lightning; whether you grasp it or fail to grasp it, you cannot avoid losing body and life.' A monk then asked, 'I wonder: does a person who grasps it still avoid losing body and life, or not?' Baofu said, 'Setting aside what was just said, can you, Ācārya, grasp it?' The monk said, 'If I cannot grasp it, I will not avoid being laughed at by the great assembly.' Baofu said, 'An expert, an expert!' The monk said, 'What kind of mental activity is this?' Baofu said, 'A ladle of shit splashed across the face, unaware of the stench.'"
The Master said, "Venerable elders, Baofu has the claws and fangs to capture tigers and rhinos alive, and this monk was not an easy match either. Even so, he still let Baofu off by one move. Now tell me, as for Cuifeng and the great assembly, do you still allow other quarters to examine and reprove us, or not? If we cannot avoid it, on flat ground the dead are countless; among them, is there any who can come to life?" The Master raised his staff and said, "Here it comes! Here it comes!"
